The ten Hungarian diocesan synods from 1993 to 1999 dealt in detail with the largest minority in the country, the Roma (about 876.000 persons). These were subsequently also put into practice by the Bishops' Conference and the individual dioceses, for example through comprehensive guidelines of the Bishops' Conference and the creation of a commission for the Roma pastoral care. An institute of its own, dedicated to Blessed Ceferino (the first beatified of the Roma ethnic group) was established, as well as six training centres for specialists in pastoral care for this population group. Finally, a complete translation of the Bible in the so-called Lovari dialect was prepared.
